Do you have an old computer sitting, gathering dust in a cupboard or the attic? Why not resurrect it by adding a new, up to date operating system and breathing life into the old beast?
Completely free operating systems such as Ubuntu and PC-BSD can run on relatively low spec computers. They allow you to do all the things that most people do day-to-day on their windows pc's: Read/Write Emails, Surf the Internet, Rip & Burn CD's, Write Letters, Create Spreadsheets, Edit Photos, Create MP3's etc. It can make an ideal computer for your study or the kids bedroom.
Not only is the operating system completely free, but there are thousands of software titles that are also free - inlcuding ones you may already be familiar with on your pc - Firefox, Open Office, Skype etc.
But wait I hear you say, I don't know anything about Linux operating systems - I don't know how to use them! Well, these days, many of the linux operating system have very easy to navigate graphical interfaces which work in a similar way to Windows - drop down menus, file windows, right-click context menus etc. Software installation is handled from within the operating system - most things are relatively simple.
The screenshots above show examples of desktops for Ubuntu and PC-BSD - they don't look too much different to what you're using now do they? We can help set these up and put some life back into an old pc.
