AVG has, for a long time, provided home users with a free version of their anti virus software. The protection levels are good and with the most recent version, Anti-Spyware and a safe surf tool bar are also included.

There was a point a few years back when version 7 first appeared, that I stopped recommending AVG, as it had got very resource hungry. It is not quite so bad now, although it can slow down your initial startup due to updating the virus index files.
