Iobot produce some great free software, and this is one of the best. The lastest version packs more functionality into it's simply interface. It groups functions together so you can clean and optimise with a single click. Keep your system healthy and use ASC regularly.

Name / Type
FBackup
Data Backup
Website / Creator
Softland
Information
FBackup is a free backup software for both personal and commercial use. It protects your important data by backing it up automatically to any USB/Firewire device, local or network location. The backed up data can be either compressed (using standard zip compression) or an exact copy of the original files.
Ade's Comments
FBackup will allow you to back up your important data to a plug in device, such as USB Flash Drive or external hard drive, a partition or additional drive on your pc or another pc on your network. I have not used this myself, but it looks simple and easy to use, allows you to schedule backups as well as running on the fly and saves data either as an exact copy or a compressed file (easily accessible via the restore routine or any zip program - such as JZip). You can even add plug ins for your browser (Opera or Forefox) to save history, favourites, passwords etc. It also supports Volume Shadow Copy, which will backup files even if they are in use. There will soon be a tutorial on backing up your data.

Information
Backup those important items of data (files, photos, movies etc.). This is a small and very flexible little backup software. You can set up regular backup routines (you can create more that one backup to run at specified times (daily, weekkly etc.) or on the fly. You can backup to pretty much anything, including flash drives, network drives and external hard drives. You can also set differencial backups up, so that only updated/new files get backup up (makes the backup much quicker).
Ade's Comments
I have installed this in several locations, and it seems to work very well - especialy with flash drives.

JDiskReport
System Tool
Website / Creator
JGoodies
Information
JDiskReport enables you to understand how much space the files and directories consume on your disk drives, and it helps you find obsolete files and folders. The tool analyses your disk drives and collects several statistics which you can view as overview charts and details tables.
Ade's Comments
This is a great little application that scans your hard drive(s) and shows you where all your space is being used. You can drill down through the folders and subfolders to view the information. The default view is a pie chart, which makes idetification of the larger files easy, but you can change the views to suit yourself. A highly recommended piece of software.

VirtualBox
Virtualization
Website / Creator
Oracle / Sun Micro Systems
Information
Open source virtual machines on your desktop. Ever wanted to try a different operating system but didn't want to load it as your main system? Every wanted to run your old copy of Windows 98 on your Vista pc? Virtualization lets you run loads of different operating systems (including server versions) from within your normal operating system. You can use these virtual machines with all of the resources of your laptop/desktop without affecting your main operating system. If you use server software as a virtual machine, you can even get clients to log onto it as if it were a real server.
Ade's Comments
This is a fantastic piece of software if you want to try other operating systems. You simply create as many virtual machines as you wish, assign resources to them and away you go - the operating system appears in a window. You can switch between your main OpSys and the virtual one. Very handy!

iDrive - Online Backup
Data Backup online
Website / Creator
Pro Softnet Corporation
Information
Backing up is a chore that ALL computer users should do, but very few actually carry it out. Software can be reloaded at any time, but photos and family movies cannot be replaced. Having an external hard drive or flash stick is great for backing this stuff up, but it is the actual task of doing a regular backup where people tend to come unstuck. This site gives you 2GB of free space (upgraded to 12GB if you recommend 5 friends) - what makes this site different to many of the other sites give free storage space (ADrive, MS Skydrive and Google to name but 3) is that you get a software download that can automatically backup your data! It seems to work pretty well, so your files get backed up without you having to do anything apart from download and set up an account - awesome! As the backup is online, it is only going to be as fast as your UPLOAD speed (home users is usually up to 512kbps) - so your first backup might take quite a while (a few hours maybe depending on the amount of data), but after that, it just backs up anything thats changed. It also means you can get to your data anywhere in the world by logging onto their website with your username and password.
Ade's Comments
I have only used this site with one customer so far, but it seems to work really well. The download is easy to setup and understand, and the automatic backup seems to work effortlessly. Give it a go - it's free!

ADrive online storage
Data Backup online
Website / Creator
ADrive LLC
Information
50GB of FREE online storage. This site requires you to manually backup your data (if you pay for the service, you will get ADrive desktop, that can automatically schedule backups). If you don't trust yourself to do the backups, then it might be worth looking at IDrive instead, as this offers the software with the free space 9although you only get 2GB).
Ade's Comments
This free space is great if you are able to fine your way round your files easily. You upload your files (and download them) using the website which has an FTP type interface. I can always come and show you how to use it if you get stuck!
