This software is similar in many ways to the commercial packages Adobe Photoshop and Painshop Pro. These package come with a price tag though - especially Photoshop which is nearly £500. A good way to get into using layers with you images.

Wax
Video Editing
Website / Creator
DebugMode
Information
Wax is a high performance and flexible video compositing and special effects software. The idea for Wax is to be very general purpose and flexible in video compositing and effects, so that you can compose your dream video sequence with ease everytime. Wax can create 2D & 3D special effects and can work in two modes - as a standalone application which would appeal for home users/beginners, and as a "plug-in" to video editors/NLEs which would be more useful for professional editors. Currently Wax can work as a plug-in with Sony Vegas®, Pure Motion EditStudio and Adobe Premiere® and work for integrating with various other NLEs is in progress.
Ade's Comments
Wax is a fantatic video editing software. I do quite a bit of video editing myself, and I use MAGIX, which is a commercial (paid for) package. Wax however is completely free, with a vast amount of visual effects, transitions and title options. It doesn't offer DVD creation/burning options, but can certainly help your next YouTube production look stunning.

FairUse Wizard 2
DVD to AVI
Website / Creator
FairUse
Information
Convert your DVD's to Divx/Xvid quickly and easily to store either on a DVD (backup of your original movie - can be played on PC's and some DVD players) or on your media player.
Ade's Comments
FairUse rips your DVD (you need the original disc) and converts it into a smaller file (about 700MB from 4-9GB). Ideal for putting on your handheld media player or on your media centre pc. Quick and easy wizard format makes it simple to use. The free (lite) version doesn't have all the functionality and control of the paid for version, but still does a great job!

Good fun to use. I have created a few models for use with some website work (see my artwork page). The intuitive interface and simple controls make this a joy to use for all ages. You can create objects to exact sizes in the design areas.

LibreCAD
Information
LibreCAD is a free Open Source 2D CAD application for Windows, Apple and Linux.
Ade's Comments
LibreCAD looks like a handy little piece of software for those who wish to draw or plan at scale, without the expense of a commercial CAD package (these can run into £1000's per year!!). I've not had a chance to play with it much, but it looks quick and simple enough, with output to pdf. It does support .dxf files but not .dwg.
