Free antiVirus software that uses the internet cloud, so it is extremely light on system resources and does not require the download of signature files. This makes it ideal for use with low spec systems such as Netbooks.
This is Panda's first entry into a Freely available security product. They are a highly resspected security software company - I have been using Panda in the business environment for about 7 years. |

I was getting a new netbook ready for someone and needed to add some antivirus/anti malware protection. I'm a huge fan of Avast!, but wanted to know if there was something more suitable for Netbooks (due to their smaller processors). This seems like the ideal solution - all the updating and processing is done in the cloud, making it very streamline. We'll have to wait and see how good it is. |

Microsoft have finally brought out a security product, Security Essentials, and it's completely free (providing your are running a genuine copy of Windows). It protects from Viruses, Spyware and Malware. |

I have not used this product myself, but hope to try it out shortly. It was about time that microsoft brought out security software, and I'm glad that it is free (you need to run genuine advantage during the install). Reports are that the protection is good, but it can be a bit slow when running scans - it runs better in Windows 7 than XP. It could be suitable for Netbooks that are running Windows 7. |

AVG has, for a long time, provided home users with a free version of their anti virus software. The protection levels are good and with the most recent version, Anti-Spyware and a safe surf tool bar are also included. |

There was a point a few years back when version 7 first appeared, that I stopped recommending AVG, as it had got very resource hungry. It is not quite so bad now, although it can slow down your initial startup due to updating the virus index files. |

Comodo offer a load of security software completely free. What was once Comodo Firewall is now Comodo Internet Security, which adds Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware into the package (note: If you already have Anti-Virus software on your pc, it is recommended that you disable the Comodo AV). |

Good firewall with easy interface. I didn't like the version with the Anti-Virus so much - preferring to use Avast! with PCTools Firewall. But the Comodo product has been around for quite a while and offers great protection. |

Good Spyware protection. Automatically updates and rund scheduled system scans. Includes HIPS (Host Intrusion Provention System), which will check the characteristics of any software that installs and try and decide if it thinks it is spyware - this can bring up false positives. Great "Free" protection - also includes the crawler web browser bar (optional install). |

A very east to use firewall, with good system protection. When you first install the program, the system will need to learn what programs you want to allow access to the internet (as with all firewalls), but PCTools Firewall doesn't seem as annoying as other firewalls I've used! |

Excellent Free AntiVirus software for home users. Runs quietly in the background and doesn't use all your system resources. When you first load the software, it offers to run a boot scan (restart your pc and it runs before windows boots up) to check your system - handy if you are loading onto a pc that has already been running for a while. |

Great Anti-Virus software which runs quietly in the background and doesn't seem to take up system resources - even when getting the latest updates. Integrates very well with Outlook and has verious setting levels for each of the 7 engines running. You need to register on the Alwil site each year to get your license key (you only need to enter your email address). Highly recommended |
